The Dispatch Room publishes opinion and analysis under Malcolm Reed’s editorial direction. These policies explain the standards readers can expect and the current limits of this independent publication.
Editorial standards
The Dispatch Room aims to make a clear distinction between reported facts, analysis and opinion. Articles are labeled by type, and the publisher is responsible for the final editorial judgment.
- Headlines and summaries should fairly reflect the argument in the article.
- Opinion is presented as opinion, not as straight news reporting.
- Material conflicts of interest should be disclosed when relevant.
- Images and captions should not knowingly misrepresent the subject.
- Articles should be updated or corrected when a material error is confirmed.
Corrections
When a material factual error is confirmed, The Dispatch Room will correct the article and add a clear note explaining the change when the correction affects the substance of the piece. Minor spelling, grammar and formatting fixes may be made without a note.
Readers can request a correction in the discussion below the relevant article without a publisher account. Please identify the statement and explain the requested correction. Comments are public, so do not include private personal information.
AI policy
Artificial-intelligence tools may assist with drafting, editing, design, illustration, organization or research support. Malcolm Reed retains responsibility for publication decisions, tone and final approval. AI assistance does not remove the obligation to correct material errors.
AI-generated or AI-assisted illustrations may be identified in their captions when that context is useful to readers. The publication will not knowingly present a synthetic image as documentary photography of a real event.
Privacy
The Dispatch Room uses a limited, first-party traffic counter to record page views, the requested page, the date and the referring website's hostname. It estimates daily visitors using a one-way anonymous identifier derived from technical request information. Raw IP addresses and browser details are not stored in the traffic report, and traffic records older than 60 days are automatically removed.
Reader and publisher accounts use necessary session data for sign-in and account security. The public site currently does not collect newsletter addresses because the email service has not yet launched. The hosting service also supplies a performance-monitoring script that may receive technical request information. Fonts or other externally hosted assets may still receive ordinary technical request information. No promise is made that internet transmission is completely secure.
